Rise and Shine is the opening and closing instrumental underscore and song, featured in the first and second seasons, plus two episodes of the third season of the original series, The Flintstones.

Background[]

It is a lively instrumental underscore accompanying Fred on his drive home from work at the Slate Rock and Gravel Company in Bedrock.

Lyrics[]

Rise and shine, rise and shine
When you're happy, you're doing fine
When you're up
You can't be down
You'll never make a million if you're wearing a frown

Rise and shine, pal of mine
Dreams are blooming on a wishing mine
Just a touch, you'll dream a match
It doesn't hurt to count your chicks before they can hatch

My my, what a wonderful day
Sunshine, birds are singing away
True blue sky, making everything bright and gay
All you gotta do is
Rise and shine, wear a grin
Now's the season of wearing thin
Throw your troubles away
Come on and rise and shine
It's a wonderful day

My my, what a wonderful day
Sunshine, birds are singing away
True blue sky, making everything bright and gay
All you gotta do is
Rise and shine, give a grin
Now's the season of wearing thin
Throw your troubles away
Come on and rise and shine
It's a wonderful day

Notes/Trivia[]

  • It was released on the Golden Records 78 rpm children's record release, Songs of the Flintstones with lyrics sung by the cast members. The lyrics were never heard on TV.
  • The tune resembled "The Bugs Bunny Overture (This Is It!)", the theme song from The Bugs Bunny Show, also airing on ABC at the time, and may have been the reason the theme was changed in the third season.
  • In order to provide consistency, syndicated versions of the first two seasons saw the Rise and Shine opening and closing credits replaced by the "Meet the Flintstones" opening. The original theme wouldn't be restored to these broadcasts until the 1990s. The melody, however, continued to be heard in the applicable episodes as incidental music.
