I Yabba-Dabba Do! is a 1993 American animated made-for-telefilm based on the original series, The Flintstones and its spin-off, The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show. It premiered on ABC on February 7, 1993.

Plot[]

Pebbles (who now works for an ad agency) and Bamm-Bamm (who works in a car repair shop) are now all grown up and decide to get married after Bamm Bamm proposes with a poem, in the middle of the street (after Pebbles mistakenly thinks he was trying to dump her when Bamm Bamm read her a letter that started "Dear Pebbles"). Bamm-Bamm wants a simple wedding, but Fred claims that he will pay for a big, fancy wedding, believing that Bamm-Bamm just insulted Pebbles. However, Fred loses the family savings when he bets it on his team, the Bedrock Brontos. Without the nest egg to pay for the wedding, he tries to get a loan from the bank, but they won’t give him one because of his bad credit score. Fred tries asking for a raise from Mr. Slate, but is dismissed from his job because of his violent temper and getting his boss injured the other day. He looks for another job at a department store, but he gets himself fired after damaging some fragile things. Later, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm break up after a petty argument, much to Fred’s delight, but they quickly miss each other and get back together.

Fred enlists Barney's help in bringing more money for the wedding, but they fail, losing Barney's money to a real estate con artist. The con man is caught, but Barney's money is taken to the station for evidence, leaving Barney broke as well. Meanwhile, Wilma's mother Pearl Slaghoople arrives to help with the wedding and to make sure that Fred doesn’t mess it up. Fred throws Bamm-Bamm a bachelor party at the lodge, but it ends badly when Fred humiliates Barney by making him dress up as a stripper (since the real one quit after finding out Fred and Barney are broke). Pebbles and Bamm Bamm decide to elope in Rock Vegas because of their parents' constant arguing and fighting. Wilma and Betty discover the truth about Fred and Wilma's nest egg, and Fred is kicked out of the house. Even Dino is mad at him. Guilty and realizing this is all his fault, Fred apologizes to Barney, Wilma, Pearl and Betty, and asks Barney to help him search for Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm to save the wedding. At first Barney is still furious at Fred and refuses to let him in, but he eventually forgives Fred and they proceed to save the wedding.

Fred and Barney travel to Rock Vegas looking for Pebbles and Bamm Bamm. They stop at a casino where Barney wins more money. They are attacked by the Wedding Whackers gang after mistaking them for Pebbles and Bamm Bamm getting married and took a photo of them robbing a newlywed couple. Shortly afterwards they are rescued by Pebbles and Bamm Bamm. During the chase, the photo of the Wedding Whackers is destroyed, so the four are captured as suspects of being the marriage whackers, along with the real marriage whackers.

While in detainment, Fred reveals all the trouble he has gone through to try to help Pebbles with her wedding ceremony which leads the marriage whackers to reveal to their crimes, to the dismay of the Whackers' mother. Since Barney made a lot of money on his casino wins on the big wheel, they can use it to pay for the wedding, replace Fred and Wilma’s nest egg, and pay off their debts. Fred, Barney, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm finally reunite with Wilma, Betty and the others. Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm get married, with Fred, Barney, Dino, Wilma, Betty and Pearl as the happy ones seeing them getting married. Fred gets his job back from Mr Slate, who, after coming to the wedding, realizes why Fred needed the raise. At the end, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm reveal they are moving to Hollyrock to start Bamm-Bamm’s career of filmmaking with Barney paying their way with his share of the Rock Vegas winnings, at which Fred gets angry with Barney and they start to fight again.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • In promotional art for the special, most of the characters from the franchise such as Gazoo, Wiggy, Penny, Moonrock, Schleprock, Count Rockula, Baby Puss and Captain Caveman appeared at the wedding, despite not appearing in the special itself.
  • William Hanna and Joseph Barbera appear as guests at the wedding, happy that Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm got together.
  • Fred previously dreamed about the wedding in the original series episode, "Rip Van Flintstone", though on that occasion it was depicted as more of a nightmare than a pleasant event.
  • Fred and Wilma are getting married in Rock Vegas like in the movie.
  • This was the first Flintstones TV movie to feature B.J. Ward as the voice of Betty Rubble instead of Gerry Johnson who passed away on January 24, 1990 of non-communicable disease and Frank Welker as Dino and Barney Rubble instead of Mel Blanc due to the latter passing away on July 10, 1989 from Coronary Artery Disease.
  • This is first one out of three Flintstones TV movies we see Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm as adults.

Errors[]

  • When Pebbles announces to Fred, Wilma, Barney, and Betty that they won't get married, Betty's bow and dress are colored pink instead of blue.
