Hoppy is the Rubbles' family pet Hopparoo and a fictional character of the fifth and sixth seasons of the original series, The Flintstones.

Hoppy debuts in the fifth season episode "Hop Happy", where Barney and Betty Rubble acquire him as a new house pet for Bamm-Bamm. He babysits the kids as he takes them around in his pouch.

Hoppy is very playful and friendly and he seems to be very good at boxing, which Fred Flintstone found out the hard way. At first, Fred regards Hoppy as an overgrown, obnoxious nuisance until the day came when the Flintstones and Rubbles are endangered while out on a picnic and Hoppy goes for help. Hoppy becomes good friends with Dino and often helps with babysitting the children.

Physical Appearance

Hoppy is a Hopparoo with green skin, three black hairs on his head, five black spots on the top of his knees, yellow-tan muzzle on his face, with six light green spikes on his back. Also, he wears a pink or red collar and has a pouch of which he carries Pebbles, Bamm-Bamm, and numerous of other things inside. He gets around by hopping on his hind legs.

Scriptwriter Warren Foster harked back to his days with the Warner Bros. cartoon unit in the scene where Fred and Dino mistook Hoppy for a giant mouse. Hoppy appeared sporadically through the end of the series and is featured in various Flintstones merchandise.

  • This character is not featured in the 1994 live action film, The Flintstones.
  • A CG-animated hopparoo makes a small appearance in the second live-action film The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas and while not meant to be Hoppy it was a clear reference to the character.
