Cave Kids (also known as Cave Kids Adventures or Cave Kids: Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm) is an American animated television series and a short-lived spin-off of the original series, The Flintstones produced by Hanna-Barbera which aired on Cartoon Network as part of its educational programming block from September 21 to November 9, 1996 and is the seventh incarnation of the Flintstones franchise.

Overview[]

The series followed the adventures of Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm as preschoolers with Dino, the Flintstones' family dog as their babysitter. While Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm spoke in baby-talk gibberish to adults, they could communicate normally with each other, a la Rugrats (another show that Bamm-Bamm's voice actresses, Cavanaugh and Daily worked on). Unlike the original series and other spin-off productions, this show focused more on educational values and lessons for preschool children. Another thing worth noting is that Pebbles, Bamm-Bamm and Dino were the only established characters to appear in the show and everyone else including their parents (Fred and Wilma Flintstone, and Barney and Betty Rubble) was completely absent.

Production[]

Development[]

Interest in a series revolving around Pebbles, Bamm-Bamm, and Dino came from a line of licensed products that sold well,[1] and due to the 1994 live-action film failing to reach the audience under 8 years old, Turner decided to focus their attention on Flintstones series directed towards infants and preschoolers.[2] Alternatively advertised as Cave Kid Adventures, the series was produced as an eight episode run, perhaps to see how good of an idea they really thought they had.

To capitalize on the series, licensed merchandise was made, including bath products and books for 1997.[2] The concept and illustrations are credited to Russell Hicks and Gail Harrison, respectively. Marija Miletic Daïl produced and directed every episode, although for the latter credit, although she is the only credit as a producer and art director. Although Turner publicized the series, by the time it aired, Turner had already merged with Time Warner, with the credits reflecting that.

Music[]

Bill Burnett composed the opening intro and closing outro. The score for every episode was composed by Guy Moon and Bodie Chandler was director of music production.
