Baby Puss is Fred and Wilma Flintstone's pet saber-toothed cat and one of the recurring characters that rarely appeared in the original series and the rest of the franchise.
Background[]
Physical Appearance[]
Baby Puss is a large saber-toothed cat with yellow-orange fur, with black spots, a tan muzzle on his face and ears, a black nose, whiskers and a long tail.
History[]
Though featured in merchandise and in the series' opening and closing credits, Baby Puss is rarely seen in the actual series. Baby Puss is mostly known for Fred's failed attempts at putting him out at night in the ending credit sequences. In the first sequence, he runs back inside when Fred isn't looking, and in the second sequence, he jumps thru the window and puts Fred out instead.
In "The X-Ray Story," Baby Puss yowled and ran out of the house when Wilma told Dino she'd feed his Shlump pet food to him, since one of the ingredients was saber-toothed tiger giblets.
In "Nuthin' But the Tooth," Fred attempted to tie a string to Dino to yank out Barney's tooth by chasing Baby Puss. Of course, Barney realizes this would hurt, and Fred ends up in a wild ride.
In "The Dress Rehearsal," Baby Puss and Dino are fighting, but when Fred tells them to be quiet, they use signs saying "Meow" and "Bow-wow."
In "Pebbles' Birthday Party," Baby Puss gets fed up with Fred's snoring and decides to go to the animal shelter, where he can sleep better. This was the only appearance where he spoke.
In a What-a-Cartoon short "Dino: Stay Out!" (which is based on the credits sequence), Fred puts Dino in charge of keeping Baby Puss outside, only to often fail miserably with Baby Puss' relatives acting as him. The short ends with Fred showing him how it is done. Just like in the end credits, the cat locks them both out, leading Fred and Dino yelling for Wilma to let them in. In this cartoon, he is much smaller, has stripes, and is a more brownish color.
In the opening of The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown!, Baby Puss made a brief cameo, being woken up and scared away by Fred, who was late for work at the Slate Rock and Gravel Company.
